Convicted sex offender Graham Phillips, 53, from Rugeley who was on the run for six months was captured in Majorca.

Strangler convicted
A Staffordshire man has admitted killing his wife during a trip to London. The court heard how James Abell, who's 58 and from Westwood
Road in Wolstanton, and his wife Josephine were in London in 2002 to find out if she was clear of cancer. The prosecution say he strangled Mrs Abell. Abell pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will now be assessed.

Staff dejected after 390 job cuts Employees at an electronics factory in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire say they have been let down after being told the plant is to close. 180 employees will have the chance to relocate to the company's other UK factory in Telford.

Nursery investigated Allegations about the standard of care at
The Little Treasures day nursery at Festival Park in Stoke on Trent are being investigated by education officials. The claims come from the makers of an undercover BBC documentary. The education watchdog, Ofsted says its working with the police and social services to investigate the allegations, and has asked the BBC for more details of its findings. The nursery hasn't commented on the issue.

Historic building 'at risk'
A 16th century building in Staffordshire has been added to English Heritage's "at risk" register. Biddulph Old Hall in Biddulph is one of nine additions to the list across the West Midlands. Patshull Hall in Staffordshire comes off the list. It has had its principal terrace, steps and tower restored. This year's BBC2 Restoration programme, which starts next month, will be featuring buildings deemed at risk.
In East Staffordshire Sinai Park at Branston and the gates at Yoxall's Hoar Cross Hall remain on the register.

Staffs world champion A Staffordshire man has been crowned the world's champion clay pigeon shooter. Paul Bailey, a former motorcycle racer from Cheddleton near Leek, lost the use of his legs in an accident 11 years ago. He won the disabled category at the world games in the South of France earlier this month. Earlier in the year he was crowned European champion for the second time.

Woman assaulted in park Police are hunting a man who assaulted a woman as walked in Hanley Park in Stoke-on-Trent. The woman, who was on her own, was approached by the man at around 2200 BST on Saturday. He asked whether she had a boyfriend and if she would walk with him. The man then pushed the victim into a tree near to the steps of the park and walked away. The woman was distressed but did not need hospital treatment. The man is described as Asian, in his 20s, and was wearing light jeans and a dark jacket. Police say this is the third such assault in the park in four months.
