Under-16s curfew 'a success' A curfew on young people in a Staffordshire
town is proving successful, say police. Any child under 16 found on the streets
of Biddulph after 2100 BST can be sent home by officers if they think the youngster
does not have a good reason to be out. Such curfews have been opposed by civil
rights campaigners. But Staffordshire Police say there is less trouble in the
town since the measure was imposed.

Aircraft flight attacked Wolverhampton Airport bosses who "smuggled" in
a passenger aircraft have been attacked by South Staffordshire MP Sir Patrick
Cormack. He has also revealed he has discussed the Bobbington airport with Transport
Secretary Alistair Darling, who told him he felt it should not be expanded.
The airport angered many residents and anti-expansion campaigners when it revealed
a 31-seater passenger aircraft had landed at the site and claimed it had not resulted
in any complaints from people living nearby. Bosses hailed it as a victory in
their battle to operate passenger flights from the site. In a White Paper
review of transport published in December, Alistair Darling ruled that any decision
over the future of the airport would be made by the council. During a recent public
consultation over planning policies, South Staffordshire Council received 8,000
objections about the proposed expansion of the airport. Rugby "battle"
A match in the Women's National Festival of Rugby at Lichfield left so many
female players injured that the newspapers referred to it as the "Battle
of Lichfield". Twelve young women were injured in the final, which was staged
at Lichfield Rugby Club in the city's Cooke Fields. Ten casualties were taken
to hospital after being hurt. A further two victims were flown by air ambulance
to ease the pressure on the other accident and emergency units. About 600 women
from all over the country descended on the Tamworth Road ground over the weekend
for the tournament, which was organised by the Rugby Football Union for Women
(RFUW). A spokesman for the pressure group, Family and Youth Concern, blamed
"social engineers" with "a misguided view of equality" for encouraging women to
play contact sports. Saturday
