They're visited by an officer from the Youth Offending Team, who offers them a number of different options. These range from meeting their victim, writing them a letter of apology, doing a course on the dangers of their crime or help with drink or drug problems they might have. In its first year, the scheme has brought re-offending rates down from 57% to less than 32%.
