Doulton to close last UK factory Around 500 people are to lose their jobs
with the closure of Royal Doulton's last remaining UK factory. The company has
confirmed it is selling its Nile Street plant in Stoke-on-Trent to property developers,
St Modwen for £2.5m. See

down United? Telford United Football Club has won a stay of execution at least
for its next few matches. Its parent company Miras Contracts, based in Hednesford

Clarke was nineteen when he was killed almost exactly a year ago by so-called
friendly fire - along with a Queen's Royal Lancer, Stephen Allbutt, who was from
Stoke-on-Trent. David's mother Beverley says she doubts she'll ever know exactly

A young entrepreneur from Staffordshire has pledged to raise a million pounds
help support a children's charity. 25 year old Charlie Robinson from Chase Terrace,
near Lichfield will aim to raise the money through fund raising events to help
the Rainbow House Charity which provides support for children with cerebral palsy.
Charlie has two years to raise the money.
Ozzy's house for sale Country
house Bullrush Cottage, at Ranton Green near Stafford, is for sale for nearly
half a million pounds - which may appeal to rock fans. The cottage belonged to
the Black Sabbath heavy metal rock star Ozzy Osbourne at one time, when he was
married to his first wife Thelma Mayfair. However the star's own in-house recording
studios have been converted since Ozzy's time into a games room. Naked
in London The naked body of a pregnant East Staffordshire woman has been used
as inspiration for a statue which will adorn Trafalgar Square's empty plinth for
the next 18 months... although the model for it has no arms. Alison Lapper, an
artist from Burton, was born with phocomelia, which is a condition similar to
that caused by thalidomide. See

firm to monitor prisoners A private firm will be employed at Staffordshire
police stations to look after prisoners while officers go out on patrol. The government
is providing £438,000 so that the contractors can be taken on for two years. Staffordshire
is one of ten pilot areas being given money. It will be used to take on civilian
staff to do the station-based jobs traditionally performed by police officers.
