DIY woman gets stuck in cupboard Firefighters freed a woman who had been trapped in an airing cupboard for nearly 14 hours. Christine Mulliss, 27, was painting inside the cupboard at her home in Tamworth, Staffordshire when the door slammed shut. Read the full story from BBC News


Pubs warned Landlords in Burton have been warned they could lose their licenses after teenagers - as young as 14 - were found drinking in the town's bars. The youngsters were discovered as part of a police crackdown on trouble makers as seventeen police officers, including Special Constables, visited bars across Burton. As well as ten underage drinkers, police discovered unlicensed door staff and one bar which allowed the use of an illegal drug. They've warned that a number of landlords now face prosecution and their licenses being revoked.

Ann Winterton sacked The MP for Congleton Ann Winterton has been expelled from the Tory Parliamentary Party for making a joke about the Chinese cocklers who died in Morecambe Bay.

Churches repair Thirty-two places of worship across the West Midlands will benefit from a package of joint grants worth over £1.8 million from English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
St Bartholomew's Church at Blore, Staffordshire will benefit to the tune of £115,000. The church is thought to date back as far as the 13th century and has not been significantly altered since the 17th century. The grant will be used primarily to replace the roof of the nave, chancel,north aisle and north chapel.
Other churches to benefit are: Church of St Augustine, Rugeley;
Church of the Holy Cross, Bobbington; Church of St Editha, Church Eaton; and Church of St Mary, Ellenhall.

Tory demands drug-testing for youths Conservative leader Michael Howard called for a change in the law to allow a computer drug testing kit to be used on under-18s when he visited Stafford. Mr Howard saw the force's new computerised device which used at Stafford Police Station to test all adults coming in to custody. Mr Howard said the law should be realaxed to allow its use in dealing with the problem of drug use among under-18s.

Man's death treated as suspicious Police are treating the death of a man whose body was found near Lichfield as suspicious. The man's body was found in a grey Vauxhall Astra car parked in a lay-by on the A38 in Weeford. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said the man, who has not been identified, was found at 1730 GMT on Tuesday.
The spokesman said they believed the car, which was parked on the southbound carriageway, had been at the scene for two to three days.

One arrested over murder inquiry A man is arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman after paramedics find Susan McKinnon's body in a house in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. Read the full story from BBC News

Grant to expand garden waste service More residents in Stafford will have their garden waste recycled regularly thanks to an £800,000 grant. The council's Brown Bin scheme has been chosen for extra government funds. The scheme will now be expanded to 35,000 more homes. Recycling officer Diane Barnard said it was another crucial step in meeting environmental targets for the future.

Spanish lottery scam discovered Trading standards officers are working with Spanish police to end a lottery scam after a local man was conned out of money. They say the man from Stafford could have lost £7,500 after receiving a letter telling him he had won the Spanish lottery, El Gordo. Read the full story from BBC News
