Over
six thousand light bulbs, three thousand square metres of red carpet,
two thousand champagne flutes and three thousand canapes....
John Caudwell, the richest man in the Midlands, has been holding his
annual charity event, raising money for disadvantaged children in
North Staffordshire.
The mobile mogul, who set up the Caudwell Group and Phones4U, partied
with some of the country's rich and famous on Saturday for the Voyage
of Hope ball.

The evening included a reception in the piano room at his home Broughton
Hall near Eccleshall.....and kamikaze style stunts from an air show
stunt team.
A-List
The guests of course were from the top of the social roll-call - none
more so than the guest of honour, Zara Phillips, the daughter of the
Princess Anne the Princess Royal (who turned up fashionably late,
our spies say).
21-year-old Zara arrived with fellow celebrity, jockey boyfriend Richard
Johnson.
A
glittering occasion - with only the beautiful and the well-heeled
getting a look in. Why not get your own invitation to see
what went on - just click and on and look!

Auction
Wolves Football Club legend Steve Bull, who was also there, offered
some of his memorabilia for a charity auction.
The football hero, who was also celebrating Wolverhampton Wanderers
2-1 win over Reading just before the ball, said: "Most people
know I support anything for charity. It is the first time I have been
here and I am delighted to support this."
The auction was raising money for the Caudwell Charitable Trust, a
fund set up to make funds available to organisations helping sick
and disadvantaged children, and which particularly favours groups
based in North Staffordshire.
It has so far raised over a million and a half pounds, and the ball
alone raised £650,000.
Trust details
The Trust also supported the Wear It With Pride Day earlier
this year - click to see our
