Gown for use mainly on the Delivery wards This is an easy pattern
knit on a single bed machine. No ribber required. White or pastel
shades are best, if you use lemon, best in very pale or cream |

Finished gown
fits baby from approx 30 weeks gestation
This pattern is Machine Knit only
Front and back are knit all in one.
4 ply yarn
Approx finished weight 35grm (11/4 ozs) Tension 7 ( Brother Machine)
As long as your chosen wool drapes well tensions do not matter. Use tension
to suit the wool. This sample is knit in stocking stitch. You may wish to
use slip stitch or tuck stitch for the skirt. If using Lace for the skirt
please do not make it to open, unless you wish to line it , using 1 ply
yarn and the same amount of stitches. For tuck stitch double the amount
of rows you knit ie knit 120 rows for skirt, then after eylet holes change
to stocking stitch.
Cast on 100 stitches
Work a few rows w/y
Knit 6 rows main yarn
Make a picot (transfer every alt.st. to adjacent needle to
end of row)
Knit 6 rows Pick up sts. From 1st row of main yarn to make a hem
Knit 60 rows (If you wish to use tuck stitch do 120 rows)
Next Row Make eyelets (transfer every 4th st . to adjacent
needle to end of row)
Knit 10 rows
Divide for Bodice
Put 25 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows onto w/y
Continue on the 50 sts. for the front.
Change R.C.to 0
Cast off 2 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows
Cast off 1st each end on alt.rows until 30sts remain.
Cast off on w/y
Back R/S
With wrong side facing you take 25 sts. off w/y onto needles
Cast off 1st. armhole edge every alt row until 15 sts. remain
Cast off on w/y.
The armhole depth is 20 rows.
Back L/S
Join m/y to armhole edge, work as R/S.
Sleeves (both alike) knitted downwards.
Cast on 10 sts w/y
Knit a few rows
Continue in m/y knit 2 rows.
Increase 1st. at each end of every alt.row until 28sts
Knit 24 rows without shaping
Next row put every alt st. onto adjacent needle
Knit 6 rows.
Make a hem
Cast off.
Neck
W/S facing you. Pick up sts. off w/y R/back , sleeve, front, sleeve L/back
(80 sts)
Knit 3 Rows
Eyelet Row transfer every 4th st. to its adjacent needle to the end of the
row
Knit 3 rows
Cast off.
