IN ONE MACHINE KNIT CARDIGAN

The sample
sent by Shirley was knit in 2 strands of 2/30s acrylic and has a nice soft
feel to it. This is an ideal pattern for those of you who have bought industrial
and have never got round to using it, or have used it and have a small amount
left over. Each coat takes just 50 grams of yarn. The finished chest measurement
is 16” (40cms ).
MATERIALS
2 strands of 2/30s acrylic or 1 strand of 3-ply acrylic.
Tension - Approx Main Tension 4.
Rib Tension 1/1
LEFT FRONT
C.A.L. Ribber users
Cast on 37sts at left of centre 0 in 1x1 rib formation.
Rib for 12 rows. Transfer stitches to Main Bed.
Single Beds: Cast on 37 stitches at left of centre 0 on waste yarn and knit
several rows.
Using Main Yarn and Main Tension Knit 6 rows. Transfer every alternate stitch
to adjacent needles for picot edge . Leave all empty needles in WP. T 8
knit 1 row. Main tension knit 6 rows Turn up hem. Join up row tension 8.
ALL MACHINES: - Row counter 000 Knit 26 rows without shaping. (Add pattern
here if required-a band of lace or fairisle could be used but remember tiny
watch any floats). Carriage at the left start sleeve shaping. Increase 2
stitches at the side edge be e- wrap method on the next and following alternate
rows 6 times altogether (49 stitches) Cast on 4 stitches at side edge on
alternate rows 4 times altogether (65 stitches) Work straight to row counter
62. Bring 1 stitch to HOLD at neck edge every row 9 times altogether. Knit
to row counter 82. Take 9 held stitches on to Waste Yarn * Then take work
off m/c with Waste Yarn of Garter Bar.
RIGHT FRONT
C.A.R.: Cast on 37 stitches at right of centre 0 and work to match left
front reversing all the shapings. Work to *.At row counter 83, having carriage
at the left cast on 18 stitches e- wrap at centre of needle bed. Knit 1
row to right. Hang stitches of left front onto needles at left of centre,
stretching to needle 65.
KNIT BACK: Row Counter 000 Knit 36 rows straight. Cast off 4 stitches at
the beginning of the next 8 rows. Decrease 1 stitch at each end of next
12 rows (74 sts). Knit 26 rows between end of sleeve shaping and bottom
back border, adding pattern to match fronts if required. Row counter (82)
RIBBERS: Transfer alternate stitches to ribber. Hang Comb,(by dropping corner
of ribber opp. Carriage one drop) add weights. Rib Tension Knit 12 rows
Knit 1 row to R at tension 8 Transfer sts to Main bed. Latch off. Make front
borders (one with buttonholes) neck and cuffs with 6 rows of rib.
SINGLE BEDS: Knit one row with contrast thread of sewing cotton together
with Main Yarn. Main Yarn only knit 6 rows. Make picot row as on front Knit
6 rows. Join up hem by picking up marked row. Knit 1 row tension 10. Latch
off. Remove marking cotton. Make front borders (One with Buttonholes) cuffs
and neckband in picot to match.
TO FINISH
Borders all may be crocheted if preferred. Join seams neatly Sew on buttons
Press with cool iron over dry cloth if needed.
