Tension 22sts. 36 rows over Moss Stitch
Working Abbreviations

1x1 rib.

1st Row. *K1,p1, repeat from * to last stitch k1
2nd Row P1, k1, rep from * to last stitch p1

Repeat 1st and 2nd Rows
Moss Stitch 1st Row *K1,p1 repeat to end K1. Repeat 1st Row

Back

Using 3.25 (10) needles cast on 34 (40. 46 )sts. Work in 1x1 rib for 2cms (1”)

Change to 4mm (8) needles, and work in Moss stitch to 16 (19, 22, ) cms 6 ½(71/2 81/2)” inches, including the rib.

Cast off 9 (12, 13, )sts in pattern at the beginning of the next two rows. Slip remaining sts onto stitch holder.

Right Front

Using 3.25 (10) needles cast on 14, (17, 19 ) sts. Work 2cms (1”) in 1x1 rib as for back. Change to 4mm (8) needles, and proceed in Moss stitch to row 13, (16, 18,)cms 5 (6. 7) inches

Neck Shaping

Cast off 2.(3.3. ) sts at the beginning of the next row. Keeping pattern correct. Knit 2 together at neck edge on every row until 9. (12. 13. ) sts remain. Continue in pattern to row 16 (19. 22 )cms 61/2 (71/2 81/2 )inches including rib.

Cast off in pattern

Work second side reversing shaping by working 1 row less to start neck shaping

Sleeves Using 3.25 (10 ) needles cast on 24 (30. 36 ) sts

Knit 2cms (1”) in 1x1 rib as for back.

Change to 4mm ( 8 ) needles and work in Moss stitch working as follows

Increase one stitch at each end of row on the following 8th (6th. 6th ) row. Working extra stitches into pattern, until 30,(40, 48 ) sts. Continue in pattern to 10 (12, 14 ) cms 4. (5. 51/2 )inches including rib. Cast off in pattern.

Sew shoulder seams using as flat a seam as possible Pick up neckband as follows

Neckband

Using finer needles pick up stitches from around the neck, approx 10 each side plus 14. Work in 1x1 rib for 4 (5, 6 ) rows. Cast off loosely in rib.

Front Bands

Again using finer needles , pick up along fronts, buttonholes will go either side. Pick up 33, (38. 44 ) sts. Work 3 rows in 1x1 rib. On the 4th row work 4 Buttonholes as follows. Wool round needle knit 2 together.

Making up instructions

Sew all seams as flat as possible, this is very important as the babies skin is very delicate. Attach buttons according to which sex. Fold sleeves in half length ways, place centre to shoulder seam and sew into place. Sew all other seams. Attach buttons.
