Lorraine Silver - the star, who never knew she was!
Lorraine
- she just didn't know!
The
story of singer Lorraine Silver is a truly extraordinary one...
For twenty
years one of her records was a monster hit on the Northern scene. But she left
the profession and never realised her own fame - until she came to Stoke on Trent. Mary
Fox explains...
Lost
Summer Love was the title of a single recorded in 1965 by West London youngster
Lorraine Silver. She was just 13 and full of ambition - but the single didn't
make the charts and soon Lorraine gave up her ambitions to be a pop star.
Over
the years Lost Summer Love stayed out of the charts - but it was
very much in the minds of people on the Northern Soul scene, not least the DJ's. By
1978 it was a favourite and was issued on a couple of compilation CD's. But it
was only in the late 80s that Lorraine's husband spotted a magazine article -
mentioning his wife!
Even
still Lorraine didn't realise how much of an icon she was- and then in 2003 she
came to Stoke-on-Trentr to an All Nighter at the King's Hall - it was then that
the penny dropped. She spent four hours just signing autographs for fans -
admittedly in a rather astonished state!
Lorraine has now returned to her
first love and is playing clubs and has just recorded a new CD. And if you click
on the link above you can hear her tell her own story. Mary Fox
