After witnessing
some great performances and some tough judging decisions, the field has been narrowed
down to just four bands who will contest the final on the 24th March - which is
open to the public.
As well as winning the prestigious event trophy, the
winners of the final will also get the opportunity to support a major signed act
at the KUSU Summer Party this June. The major act(s) in question have yet
to be confirmed - although previous acts to play at Keele have included the likes
of Rooster, Liberty X, Razorlight and The Darkness. Such an opportunity could
prove to be a decisive break for any up and coming local act. Finalists The
first band to progress to the final were Stone based punk band Negative
Hero after narrowly edging out Hecatomb in the opening heat. Negative
Hero have been playing together since 2000 and are influenced by bands such as
Greenday, Rancid and Blink 182 among others. Song to watch out for: 'Us Against
You'. The
second band to book themselves a place in the final were local rock band Apogee.
Despite being of a fairly young age, this Stoke 3-piece have shown maturity
beyond their years, beating a couple of well established local bands in the process.
Their sound is fairly developed and could be described as a cross between
Puddle of Mudd and Staind. Song to watch out for: 'Space'. Early
this year saw Rock band No Logo progress to the final in a very
competitive heat featuring the previous year's winners Hebephrenic. No Logo
sound a lot like Muse although they have a very unique and distinctive sound.
Song to watch out for: 'Cannons and Acrobats'. The
final band to earn a place in the final were Leeds/Keele based indie rock band
The Guests. After being offered university support slots with the
likes of Embrace and Melissa Auf De Meur, it seems this four piece were put on
this planet to play university venues. Their final heat was as close as it
gets after marginally beating Blacktop Coalition and Kisa in a split vote. Song
to watch out for: 'Need a Friend' Time
& place The KUSU Battle of the Bands Final shall take place in the

role in the judging of the contest so make sure you get down there and help decide
