Local Gig Guide

Guide to Clubs & Pubs

The new release by Agent Blue is now out and released.
"Snow Hill" on Fierce Panda has received much quiet praise - especially from the likes of Lamacq and NME.

A secret history of colours
Nick AndrewsNick Andrews (vocals pictured right), Mat Jones (drums), Callum Murphy (bass), Mark Taylor (guitar), and Josh Hill (guitar) are described by their publicity as a "blur of unsettled hairstyles".

And have acquired (not their fault they say) an odd pigeon-hole as first of the baggy punks.

Their first show was at the Dublin Castle, late last year, under the name Captain Scarlet.
And the present single-publicising tour (April 2003) takes in London, Northampton, Liverpool, Sugarmill Hanley (16th), Manchester and Wolverhampton Little Civic (23rd).

Review by anonymous insider
Jon took the 3-CD single along to "one of my mates in the music business" and a day later the said so-called expert came up with these comments and gems:

... "Agent Blue.
Name makes you think of a lot of things - from Agent Orange and REM to secret agents with mellower, bluer missions impossible.

The single Snow Hill (as well as being the name of a street in a run-down district of Stoke) is reminiscent of Ned's AD, Manics, even a little Bush and a bit of the punks' punks The Ruts.

They obviously know their music of the last 20 years, American and British, and they show their influences in this 3-track CD.
But what's good is that they throw them up in the air and turn them over and produce a distillation of all those sounds - which is their own big but punky, fresh but proficient sound.

They're clearly good musicians with an incredibly confident and professional attack, even if it's been recorded in a small studio.

Get'm on MTV. America could love them." ...

Yeah. We think that's a rave review.

Spend money
Anyway the boyz are doing good, and are doing a well-proper tour just to show they mean business.

Buy your tickets now for their Hanley (home) or Wolverhampton (very nearly home) gigs. We predict sell-outs.
