I used to be the Schools liason officer for the British Transport
Police stationed at Crewe. On My travels I met one of your presenters Roy Hill.
Whilst taking part in a Writing for life course in Barrow in Furness I met a B.B.C.
Rep Whose name I only know as Marie who is helping to present these short stories.
We were reminiscing about the Potteries as she was a reporter at Radio Stoke
when I mentioned Roy Hill she had heard of him but not met. Out of interest what
is he doing now?

I used to listen to Radio Stoke on my radio in ABERDEEN in Scotland
- sometimes the reception was not good, and I did have to listen early in the
morning, but at least I could hear it. So much so, that one New Year I entered
- and won = a competition. That was a great thrill. Nowadays I can listen online,
with no crackles!

football team Stafford Rangers.
Historically Radio Stoke covered all the
Rangers matches but recently coverage has been very minimal. Come on BBC give
some coverage to best non league team in region.

a high hilltop, I can get BBC Radio Stoke on 94.9Mhz FM and in stereo with good

Vale v Brentford blackout
Dear sir or madam, I am extremely disappointed that I could find
no coverage (nor even mentions) of the above game on either DAB, FM or MW . It
seems that the fixture had been entirely ignored by BBC local radio.
In the
10 years since I have lived in the area, I can never remember a Football league
fixture involving any of the three local sides being totally ignored in this way.
I feel that listeners neither able to get to the game, nor able to subscribe
to Satellite TV should have been warned beforehand about the "blackout" so as
to make alternate arrangements. I certainly did not listen to the alternate programming
of Asian music or Country and Western Music. Yours faithfully,

why on saturday 6th of august did we have the live match commentary
from stoke on fm.
Surely as vale where the away team they should of had preference,I
was at work and could not receive the medium wave due to interference fom machinery,another
case of favouritism towards the team from the Britannia.

Dear Marie, Before you started your show I was a bit unsure if
I would like it, with you taking Matthew's place. But I have to say that I will
be listening to you every Monday because you made a big impression on me,
I think you have a wonderful radio voice for whoever listens whether they country
music or you have converted them. I have to say you'r choice of music was really
good, I particularly enjoyed the Don Williams track you played "Turn out the lights
and love me tonight", I think it is one of his best, anyway please continue to
play him on your show, I know I asked you to play an obscure track, not one of
Don's famous, "Song about the river", if you own it would you play it for me please
because it is a song I have not heard alot on the radio. If you have got it for
the same reason would you play "Catfish Baits" aswell.
A couple of years
ago my dad took me to see Don Williams in concert at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham
and I thought he was wonderful. I also really enjoyed the Alan Jackson track "The
Blues Man", I think that is one of his best. You said you played it off the Alan
Jackson Greatest Hits Volume 2 album, I have got that album and think it is wonderful,
in my opinion their is not one bad track on that album, it is Alan Jackson at
his best.
Besides "Woman's love" would you please consider playing "Dog River
Blues" in the future. What about Ricky Skaggs would you please consider playing
him on your show, in the future would you play "Same Old love". I must say I am
not a bluegrass person I only like Ricky Skaggs in the world of bluegrass, a few
favourites of mine are "Uncle Pen", Cajun Moon and Country Boy.

listening from 6:00pm to your show on Monday, and really enjoyed. But I have got
a television in my bedroom, and I really enjoy watching the snooker. So I put
the snooker on the same while I was listening to your show, a man of my is able
to do 2 jobs at once, that meant I wasn't really paying much attention the last
15 minutes of your show, and might have got it wrong, but I feel sure I heard
you right, when you said that this coming is your Country show ever, is this true?
- because you said the following week Chris Ashely is standing in for you, before
you hand over to someone else permanently. Are you changing days or giving up
completely, and will the lady that is taking over from you be doing a Country
show? When I went to bed on Monday night, I had so many questions rolling around
in my head that I just had to ask you in an email. You said you were planning
to have a Open Day is that still going ahead? - because I still want to meet you,
and put a picture to the voice I have been listening to for all this time. If
the lady taking over from you is doing a Country will she be playing more old
than new country or mix it some new, some old like you, along the lines of Kenny
Rogers, Merle Haggard, Don Williams, or Alan Jackson, George Strait and Faith
Hill? If you have got any spare time would you please e-mail to remove any lingering
doubt in my mind, and try and answer thr other questions I have aswell. If she
is doing a country show and only playing old Country, I won't be listening because

Now that this programme has returned to its 9.00am slot is it still
necessary to repeat it at 2.30pm.
Surely 3 hours of Terry Walsh would be
better for the listening figures and give more time for the excellent "good times"
programme. I would also suggest that the "bargain basement" slot is also dropped
from this programme.

note that Paul Damari will no longer present his accurate weather forecasts on
Radio Stoke. Since the removal of Denelm Siegertz from normal daytime transmissions,
Paul Damari was the one regular broadcaster worth listening to on this station.
Since the Station does not wish to serve the public, I will transfer to a more
accomodating Broadcaster.

have tried to obtain the latest weather forecast for the Stoke area from the Radio
Stoke site, only to find that the link to Paul Damari fails to operate. Is this
a temporary problem? Paul's forecasts are vastly superior in accuracy to the standard
BBC output, as they are based on the Radio Stoke transmission area.

we shall no longer be able to tune in to Paul Damari's weather forecast after
this weeekend.As farmers , this has been an almost daily ritual and we've found
him extremely reliable and very "local".Are you going to replace this service
with anything as reliable(including daily sunset and sunrise times) or are we
simply going to receive the brief summary given at the end of news bulletins -
nothing like as detailed and certainly not as reliable or even as enjoyable to
listen to ? I gather this is another BBC 'cut-back' but as well it seems this
government so enjoy putting yet another 'nail in the coffin' for rural people.

Can you explain what has happened to Paul Demari who

We thought he was
the best weather presenter we had heard or seen particularly for local weather.
Is his absence temporary or has his role been replaced? On a related point
what time is the detailed forecast supposed to be given? It used to be about 07.20
and 08.20 after the sports news on weekdays.
Recently it has been before or
after the sport. This is very irritating when one doesn't know when to listen
during a busy morning schedule. Please define when it is broadcast on weekdays
and weekends- and then keep to it!

Sadly, Paul Damari's contract to supply weather bulletins to BBC Radio
Stoke has come to an end. But I'm sure that by now you will have heard our new
weathermen who present detailed, live local weather bulletins at 7.15am and 8.15am
in the Breakfast Show.
They are all Met Office trained, use the latest computer
models to provide targeted forecasts and most have presented weather on BBC television
news. They provide weather information specifically for the Radio Stoke local
area (Mid and North Staffs and South Cheshire).
Accurate weather bulletins
- or at least, as accurate as you can be with something so changeable - are a
key part of the news and information we provide to listeners and we do not intend
to skimp on the service.
I am confident our new weather suppliers will be
as good or better than Paul Damari and indeed we have had a lot of praise for
the information they've provided so far.

Radio Stoke radio commentaries
Why is it that during this season we are not getting two match
day commentaries AM and FM covering Vale - Stoke, Crewe - Vale or Stoke- Crewe
all we seem to get is Stoke. I would like to remind BBC Radio stoke that there
are three teams in the area and that the respective supporters pay their Licence
Fee (I hope). Before any one picks up the point that size matters I would like
to point out that when Crewe were the only div one team in the area there was
still a bias towards Stoke in coverage. I suppose that the coverage for the forthcomming
match against Manchester United would take second place to a Stoke match against
Blyth Spartans.

are Crewe Alex fans and we go to virtually all home games but not many away games
these days. For the last couple of seasons the Radio Stoke coverage, if the Alex
and either the Vale or Stoke are away has been pretty fair.
Usually second
half commentaries were shared from week to week and sometimes one would be on
FM while the other was broadcast on AM. This season it sems to be dominated by
Stoke City coverage. We would like to know if it is our imagination or are you
deliberately favouring Stoke City.
If so could you explain the reason and
perhaps confirm if it is any of the following reasons:
a) Stoke City are
faring better than the Alex this season. If so where was the predominate coverage
of the Alex when we were in the first division and Stoke were in Division 2?
b) Have you fallen out commercially with the Alex or Dario?
c) Graham McGarry
has become a Stoke fan, heaven forbid!
Joking apart, we would like to
know if there has been a change of policy because if there has we will have to
try twiddling the dial for either Signal or Talk Sport. Regards

Thanks very much for your email about Stoke City/Crewe
Alexandra football commentaries. I'm happy to confirm b and c are completely incorrect!
(but obviously Stoke's good form does have an influence on our editorial judgement).
We have been placed in a difficult position because of the high level
of charges imposed by some football clubs for match commentaries. Providing a
90 minute commentary can cost a four figure sum. This is due to a Football League
agreement that allows opposing teams to charge when we provide commentary, even
if we have a deal with our "own" club (as is the case with Crewe Alexandra).
This limits the number of commentaries we can afford to broadcast, when we
would ideally like to split our frequencies (as we have done in the past) and
provide a choice of matches on a Saturday afternoon.
It is doubly unfortunate
that Stoke City and Crewe Alexandra generally play their away games on the same
day. This places us in the unenviable position of having to make a choice, based
on the editorial strength of the fixture, the needs of the audience and our role
as a public service broadcaster.
Whichever game we choose for commentary
attracts criticism from supporters of the team we have decided not to cover in
commentary terms.
At the time of writing, Stoke's average attendance
is more than 18,000, while Crewe's is a little over 7,000. In other words, more
than two-and-a-half times as many people go to watch Stoke as Crewe, and it would
be quite wrong for us not to be mindful of this fact when we are considering how
best to serve our audience.
However, that does not mean that those who
follow Crewe are ignored, and we will continue to try to provide commentary coverage
wherever possible.
We also feature unrivalled comprehensive coverage
of all three professional teams in our pre-match build-ups, phone-ins (including
one live from Dario's house this season) and during dedicated club nights on Tuesday
evenings.
Should resources permit, we will revisit the issue of splitting
our frequencies when the season approaches its climax.
In the meantime,
unless or until the Football League adopts a different approach to match commentary
fees, we will have to continue to make a judgement on a match to match basis that
will please some, and inevitably disappoint others.

Hi Dave - you don't say which programme you object to but I'm assuming it's
the Sunday Breakfast Show.
The BBC locally and nationally has a duty to reflect
the various faiths practised in the country. Here in Staffordshire/South Cheshire
we also feel it is important to broadcast a weekly church service. Sunday morning
programming on Radio Stoke gets our second highest audiences of the week so while
I accept it may not be to your taste, we are clearly serving the needs of many
thousands of other listeners.

means of hearing the radio station wherever they are in the country.
You
might be surprised how many ex-Stokies living outside the area now have the chance
to listen.
The cost is not great and the BBC feels it is well worth it if
we are able to reach a wider audience.

Gentleman, My congratulations to Matt from the WebSite. I thought
his poetry (on the sports programme) was excellent, and if he has more "generic"
offerings, I, and I am sure many other fans would take pleasure in hearing them
on a regular basis.
Why not get him to allow you to broadcast an offering
every Saturday prior to the match commentary. If he's nervous about his delivery
skills, get Nigel, Phil or Graham to "read" them. Just a suggestion.

Conversations on local radio stoke
When we are listening to any programme where a listener is contributing
on the telephone we have great difficulty in hearing what the person on the telephone
is saying.
The speech is quieter and often distorted. It is extremely inforiating
on programmes e.g. Breakfast with Kevin and Jannine, Stuart George and Tim Wedgwood
when listeners participation is a vital part of the programme.
Is there a
remedy for this problem which only seems to have occured since the station went
digital. Is it a coincidence or is it our radio?

Dear Gillian -
You're right, sometimes the phone calls are distorted but this isn't linked to
Radio Stoke going digital. Sometimes it's simply down to the quality of the phone
line and we do try to avopid putting calls on air that may be difficult to listen
to. Occasionally there is a technical fault in the studio. We have recently monitored
phone calls and have not noticed and major problems. I don't know what sort of
radio you have so I wouldn't want to comment specifically on it.

DAB
I listen to Radio Stoke on DAB. Occassionally there is a big difference
in volume between the studio and taped reports. I turn the volume down and then
I have to turn it up again. This doesn't happen on other DAB stations. Any ideas?.

Could you please send Den our love and best wishes for a speedy
recovery?
Do you have any idea as to how long he will be absent because nearly
every morning the presenter says thet he is standing in for Den and that he will
be back tomorrow?
We still miss him from his afternoon spot and hope that
in the near future he will return to his afternoon programme.

No thought was given to axe a late show with such diverse subjects.
Now all we get is time wasting competitions, no disrespect to Frances but radio
Nottingham should be ashamed of the program they put out to the midlands now.

I've been a 'radio' fan since the days of the pirates, so I feel
I'm somewhat qualified to add my comments.
I was never a fan of Alex Trelinski,
he always came across as a person who never really wanted listener participation,
and especially with his asking questions on certain subjects was for me, so embarrassing.
The best thing in my opinion the BBC should do is to put Keith Skues on the
local stations across the midlands, and not just East Anglia. then the listening
figures would soar.

Hi there, Is radio Stoke available on DAB in the south cheshire/mid
cheshire area,in towns such as Northwich, Middlewich and Winsford? I have a portable
DAB radio which would like to use when I'm working in those areas.

on the early morning show
What on earth has happened here.You have one of the most popular,entertaining
and extreamly funny presenters,and for some reason he is now presenting the 5
am- 7am spot.
i can't be the only person in Radio Stoke land who is confused.
Can anyone supply an answer ?

Hi Janet - I agree that Den is entertaining and funny, so bearing
in mind that our 2 breakfast shows (5am - 7am and 7am - 10am) together have the
highest audiences of the day, where better for Den to be? He is now the person
who opens the day's broadcasting on BBC Radio Stoke with cheerful music and banter
so you can get up with a smile. I realise that changing a presenter's time slot
will upset some people but others will be pleased - at the Staffordshire County
Show last week, the vast majority of listeners said how nice it was to hear Den's
voice again in the morning. | |
