Christina
Milaszkiewicz
Christina was born in England - at the Blackshaw Moor resettlement
camp for the Polish near Leek.
Her parents had to flee Poland after the Russians invaded. They were
both captured, and her father and mother were sent to separate labour
camps.
When they were finally released, Christina's father took five years
to find his wife and family. her mother had travelled through Europe
and was eventually found at a Red Cross camp in South Africa.
Once the family were reunited, they were housed in huts at the former
Blackshaw Moor Army Camp. It was a close community, but accommodation
was basic.
Families had to share huts, toilets and washrooms.
It was basic, we were poor, but we were happy.

who is 90, still lives at Blackshaw Moor.

Milaszkiewicz remembers life living in a hut just like this
one - two families had to share this building on the Blackshaw
Moor resettlement camp.
