Inevitably
more and more people wanted copies of them... and so presenters
such as Kevin Fernihough and Mary Fox asked for them to placed,
here, on the world-wide-web. Enjoy.

A
Mind's Dilemma
How do you begin to tell someone to try and understand,
Your leg is not in plaster, you have no bandage on your hand.
You feel that you are ebbing towards the end of your tether,
especially when a voice pipes up, "come on pull yourself together".
Your mind is racing to and fro, your head feels in a spin,
You could easily reach for a bottle, for those thoughts you
want to dim.
It seems you've fallen down a tunnel, you strive to find the
end,
But frantic, panic stricken, you feel you're going round the
bend.
"Are you locked inside a cupboard, has someone thrown away the
key?"
You are trying to see daylight, but alas, you can't break free.
Feel lucky not to have trod this path, you'll never imagine
what it's like.
Hoping that this large black cloud would lift, and you'd be
alright.
Then someone comes along who has also walked that road,
Suddenly your mind carries a much lighter load.
That person lends an ear, now you're feeling not so blue.
Kind and understanding who wants to help you through.
If you're ever in this situation and you feel this wound won't
heal.
Wishing this was just fantasy, praying your thoughts weren't
real.
Don't give up, fight on, though you'll find it tough to overcome.
For the feeling of elation is overwhelming when you've won.

Just a line to say I'm living
That I'm not amongst the dead
Though I'm getting more forgetful
And mixed up in the head
I've got used to my arthritis
To my dentures I'm resigned
I can cope with my bifocals
But ye Gods I miss my mind
Often I can't remember
When I'm standing by the stair
If I'm going up for something
Or have just come down from there
And before the fridge so often
My mind is full of doubt
Now did I put some food away ?
Or come to get some out
And if it's not my turn to write
I hope you won't get sore
I may have written twice today
And once the day before
Just remember I do love you
And wish that you lived near
And now it's time to post this
So cheerio my dear
I stand beside the post box now
and boy is my face red
Instead of posting this to you
I've opened it instead!

My
Knicker Drawer
I'm sorting out my knicker drawer
It's full to overflowing
I tend to hoard the old ones
But this time they're really going
These tangas bring back memories
Of a firm muscle tum
Regrettably, their slim size ten
Won't fit a size sixteen bum
And leather thongs! Who gave me those?
I surely never wore them?
They've got designer labels on
Someone paid a fortune for them
The problem with stretch Lycra pants,
Although they made you flatter,
They push up all the flabby bits
And make your midriff fatter
Now all that's left are big, white drawers
The fleecy, cotton kind
They may be passion killers,
But so comfortable I find
Perhaps I'll keep the leather thongs,
Wistful, wry reminder
Of carefree days when I was younger
And nature was much kinder. |
Memory
Lane Trip
This is for us Older Ones, a trip down memory lane,
To bring to mind some of the things we may never see again -
when
little shops were everywhere and stacked from shelf to floor
with every item you could name and many more
Indian brandy, syrup of figs and coconut oil shampoo,
liquorice powder, teething powders, sulphur tablets too.
Castor oil and gripe water all weighed in your own cup,
Worm cakes by the dozen, bootlaces hanging up.
A carboard head with hairnets on, rubber cycle patches,
and cards of babies' comforters, iodine for scratches,
Cards of pens and pencils, elastic by the yard,
Corn plasters and sealing wax, not a thing was barred.
Potato bin inside the door, vegetables piled high,
A big glass-fronted cabinet with bacon you could buy,
cut to any thickness, and ham and tongue there too,
cakes and bread and biscuits, even tubes of glue.
Crates of Tizer ginger beer, lemonade as well,
Along with sticks and firelighters giving off a smell;
Cards of linen buttons, mousetraps in a drawer,
Kirby grips and hairpins, cards of wool and silk
knitting needles, darning ones, bottles full of milk.
Cheshire cheese and cheddar cheese made by a local man,
lettuce and tomatoes, mushrooms in a pan,
and in the tiny window every kind of sweets -
Chlorodynes and gob stoppers that took ages to eat,
Aniseed balls and peppermints, and mixtures by the score.
Tiger nuts, and monkey nuts, sherbet-dabs and more,
liquorice wheels and lucky-bags, whatever caught your eye,
Were waiting there inside the shop for you to go and buy.
Here's hoping that this little rhyme has brought a minute's
pleasure...
And given all who read it through nostalgic thoughts to treasure. |

items.

Maybe
Maybe
God wanted us to meet the wrong people before meeting the
right ones,
so that when we finally meet them, we will know how to be
grateful for the gift.
Maybe when the door of happiness closes,
another opens,
but often times we look so long at the closed door that we
don’t see the one which has been opened for us.
Maybe the best kind of friend is the kind you can sit
on a porch and swing with, never say a word,
and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation
you’ve ever had.
Maybe it is true that we don’t know what we have got
until we lose it,
but it is also true that we don’t know what we have been missing
until it arrives

Relationships
Giving
someone all your love is never an assurance that they will
love you back.
Don’t expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their
heart;
but if it does not, be content it grew in yours.
It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone,
an hour to like someone,
and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget
someone.
Don’t go for looks; they can deceive.
Don’t go for wealth’ even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a
smile to make a dark day seem bright.
Find people that make your heart smile.

Dreams
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that
you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for
real.
Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what
you want to be, because you only have one life and one chance
to do all the things you want to do. |
May
you
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials
to make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human,
enough hope to make you happy.
Always put yourself in others’ shoes.
If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person
too. |
|
Happiness
The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of
everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their
way.
Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt,
those who have searched, and those who have tried,
for only they can appreciate the importance of people who
have touched their lives.
Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with
a tear.

The
Future
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past.
You can’t go on well in life until you let go of your past
failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you
was smiling.
Live your life so that when you die, you are the one who is
smiling and everyone around you is crying.
