It was a lovely summer in 2004 (apart from the tornadoes and floods of course...), mostly because it gave me a chance to indulge my favourite passion - writing-and-reading.

We discussed loads of books on the local radio, had a major book-swap event - and asked you to take part in competitions.
And it was so successful, we're continuing some of the themes right through 2005!

Short story competition
You sent us stories - no more than 500 words - about anything you liked.
And we picked a winner eventually - it was pretty hard work with such excellent entries - and published it here on the web and had it read out on BBC Radio Stoke.
See and hear winning entries

But, just because the immediate competition is over, that doesn't mean you should stop sending in your stories.
We're still awarding small prizes to each writer who sends in a story which we publish here on the web... so keep writing!

Txt poetry competition
Our txt msg poem competition was also very popular, with loads of entries coming in.
See the winners and other entries - maybe you'll find inspiration?

Book group anyone?

You know how frustrating it is to finish a book and have no one else to discuss it with?
Well, we started up some successful local BBC reading groups too.
They meet once a month; and discussions are broadcast on the station's Tim Wedgwood Show. See here for details, and how to join in.

Events

Poetry and Pints was an event we set up - with resounding success, and a great turnout. Most people who attended read out a few poems and a good time was had by all.

Kate, our Blast reporter attended the evening, and she even took some photos which will be added to the site shortly.

The Book-Swap at Hanley's Victoria Hall saw hundreds of books swapped by book-hungry enthusiasts.
