Burton firefighters do it first time |

group of Burton firefighters have just been crowned British Champions.
The men won a national competition for cutting people out of vehicles....
at their first attempt!
They go on to the world championships next year. |

Burton
Fire Station's Green Watch have been named national champions
at rescuing people from vehicles in crashes.
Its team beat over fifty teams in a national competition, at Chilwell
Army depot in Nottinghamshire, where they were marked on safety, team
work and efficiency.

It was the station's first attempt at the event and three members
of the winning team are trainees!
To represent one's country
Firefighter Neil Evans spoke for the team as he tried to measure just
what the achievement amounted to:
"To realise the full scale of what we've achieved, you must
know that the current world champions are Royal Berkshire,
and we actually beat Royal Berkshire into second place.
It's a fantastic achievement for all the boys really. Basically it's
afforded me to represent my country, at a level I thought I never
would do, so I'm very pleased."
With their number one title, they can now look forward to the world
championships next year. |
