Some of the greatest films ever made are only seen on the small screen today. Television is now the home to many classics that have influenced many modern filmmakers. But what was it like to watch those top films on the big screen?

One film fan has managed to bring the classics to the Odeon at the Festival Park in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a rare chance to watch memorable films in their full glory on the big screen with the atmosphere of an audience around you.

Student Screen

Student Screen is dedicated to showing classic films late every Saturday night. It's an opportunity to see movies from a bygone era that people growing up in the 70s, 80s and 90s may have been too young to appreciate on a big screen before. It also a chance for those fortunate enough to have seen them the first time around to revisit fond childhood memories.

Don't be misled by the name, this isn't just for students. Anyone who wants to see these films is welcome. It's called Student Screen because the showing offers everyone the benefits of student prices and offers - all tickets are charged at the reduced price of £3.90.

Your choice matters

Interactivity is an important and unique feature of the Student Screen. The event is used as a forum for film fans to suggest their favourite films for future screenings.

Since Student Screen started, nine of the films shown have been direct result of suggestions from the public.

So far, the following screen classics have been shown at the Odeon Stoke as part of the Student Screen:

• The Terminator • Donnie Darko
• The Usual Suspects • Die Hard
• Back to the Future • Aliens
• Ghostbusters • The Goonies
• Raiders of the Lost Ark • Top Gun
• The Lost Boys • Batman

You can nominate films that you'd like to see shown by eMailing the Student Screen organisers at student-screen@lastatak.com with your suggestions.

The future of Student Screen

Student Screen is on every Saturday night at the moment, but the organisers are currently looking to expand the idea to a Tuesday, which is the bargain day at the cinema.

So, if you want to see classic film moments like Indiana Jones cracking his whip at the bay guys or share a laugh at Marty Mc Fly with the unbeatable atmosphere of a audience around you then Student Screen is certainly worth a visit!
