Jacqueline
Harold has recently graduated from Staffordshire University after
studying for a degree in Design: Contemporary Crafts.
'Loco-commotion' is a range of beautifully crafted silver vessels(some
with resin detail) created for the dinner table. Inspired by the movement
of plants during growth, each design holds its own character and includes
simple automated elements, which encourages the diner to 'play'. Each
piece moves along a silver and resin track on its own set of miniature
wheels. The quirky table train can hold a variety of condiments including
salt, pepper, oil, sauces, sugar and cream.
We
were always told as children not to play with our food. I am
saying 'please do'. I would hope to engage the attention and
conversation of those at the dinner table.
I am also interested in looking at unique ways of seasoning
the food and the way that it arrives to the plate. I often add
a proverb sometimes relating to the contents of the vessel,
hopefully engaging the diner in thought.
The interaction between the user and the piece plays a huge
part in my work. |
