The centenary was celebrated with celebrity performances, from the likes of ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon, at Shugborough Estate. Ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon joined Take That tribute band, Fake That, and Cbeebies presenter Justin Fletcher at the Girlguiding centenary celebration in Staffordshire, on 5th September 2009. Maureen Recine, of Girlguiding Staffordshire, said, before the event: “Fake That will bring back lots of memories for our adult leaders! All the younger members are fans of the band which have made such a fantastic comeback, so this will really be a crowd pleaser with everyone.” How did it all start?Girlguiding started in 1909 when a small group of girls stepped forward at the Boy Scout rally at Crystal Palace and asked Robert Baden-Powell to start up a similar movement for them. There are now around 1 million members in the UK.
