Presenters

I think I found my calling at a very young age. My brother and I used to run mobile discos for the local kids - we were only about ten ourselves and it's amazing what you can achieve with a couple of record players and a passion for music.

The first record I remember buying was The Boomtown Rats 'I Don't Like Mondays' and from that day I was a regular in the record shop.
I'd spend hours listening to music and making up my own tapes at home. The end of term music quiz I put together became the stuff of legend in my school.

Down south

I grew up in Cornwall - the family moved down there when I was four.

By the way, I know for certain that I AM related to the famous potter Josiah Wedgwood. My granddad is in the Wedgwood Pedigree Book.

The highlight of my week was going roller-skating at the Cornwall Coliseum - it's not there anymore but it used to be a concert hall for all the big gigs.
Everyone from Bucks Fizz to Queen appeared there. 

I got friendly with one of the DJs and he showed me the ropes before heading off to the bar. I was in my element playing the records at skating.
I worked there until I moved back to Stoke when I'd been given a place at the North Staffordshire Polytechnic - now Staffordshire University.

In between, I'd applied to go and help out at my local hospital radio - at Treliske Hospital in Truro. I'd only been helping out for a few weeks before they offered me a show. For a fifteen year old to have his own radio show I thought it couldn't get much better.
And then I cheekily asked for a job at BBC Radio Cornwall. They needed someone to recycle tapes - and I was in!

I worked on the rock show, did some announcing on-air and even a bit of reporting and I'll always be grateful to them as it was just the start I needed. With the move back to Stoke and a good reference, and later I was back behind the microphone again.

BBC Local Radio

At BBC Radio Stoke, in the early nineties, I hosted the youth magazine show Mix FM (we got some really good mentions in the music press).

But my first 'proper' job was at BBC Radio Nottingham. I did live reporting from the radio car and then landed the Drivetime Show.
After three years I was offered the Breakfast Show which I hosted for another three years.
Then came the call from Stoke. It was the back-end of 2000 and the manager said, "Tim, will you come back and take over The Breakfast Show in Stoke?".

And I've been here since.
Now I spend much of the week looking after things for Radio Stoke in South Cheshire but Monday's the day I get to take my place behind the mic again presenting the popular 'Surfin The Seventies' music show. So unlike that Boomtown Rats record I bought and most people generally, I DO like Mondays.

I'm a member of the Donna Louise Trust Children's Hospice and help out there where I can and you can often see me hosting various concerts and events - the Race for Life, For The Girls, Stafford Christmas lights are just a few examples.

I'm married to Jodie and we have a daughter called Mollie.

As is usual, I've been asked to give my likes and dislikes.  Here goes:

Likes...
Good food and quality time to enjoy it with family and friends.
All kinds of film and TV (my degree is in Film, TV and Radio) and theatre (I'm Patron of the Porthill Players) and playing tennis when I can.
