Dominic Took explains here why he felt moved to try and set it up... I set up The Writer's Forum in December 2007, with the help of Malcolm Henson from The North Staffordshire Press as an attempt to promote local writing. As a self published author, I realise how difficult it is to break into the publishing industry, especially if you need to work more on what you've done. As a dyslexic I am also keen to help people, because not all of us (and this is most) can produce an immaculate manuscript the first, second or possibly third time. Therefore using our websites, forum and the public events, we hope to be able to put some of Staffordshire's talent on the map, for everyone to see. We won't ever say it's easy for anyone, because it's not, and it's very difficult. TalentWe believe that there is a great mine of local talent in the county waiting to be unearthed and our purpose is to meet regularly as a group, where we can exchange ideas and nurture the writing process amongst a wide section of the community. One member of the group - Mervyn Edwards - has already published many books about local history, and another at the age of 78 is still writing and self publishing. There is quite an extensive list of authors who are associated with our scheme. Dominic Took, Maria De Marks, Fred Deakin, Mervyn Edwards and Malcolm Henson are all a part of it.
Maria is a language specialist and produces text books for students in Spanish, Italian and English, and also an e-learning expert who sends publishing material to various countries.
