All About Making Waves

Everything you wanted to know about BBC Radio Stoke's Making Waves project but were too afraid to ask...

Making Waves gives young people an opportunity to be heard and investigate issues they care about by working with BBC Radio Stoke to make features for radio, television and online.

Working mainly with schools and youth organisations, Making Waves promotes media literacy and helps participants to develop skills in planning, production, recording and communication.

Each group works with a BBC producer to make a series of reports on a theme of their choice.  This has included race, stereotypes, ageing, recycling, crime, faith, opportunities, recycling, fears, change and communication.

In the first year of Making Waves, BBC Radio Stoke was awarded the Young People Now prize for best UK radio coverage of teenagers.

The project also won the 2005 Frank Gillard Gold Award for best Radio Feature.
