Premature Baby V-Neck Cardigans - For 10" Necks

This pattern, submitted by Doris Lord from the Haslington Machine Knitting Club is another favourite for tiny babies. Follow the instructions below to make a V-Neck Cardigan for your little one.

Back

Cast on 42sts, work in 1x1 rib for 8 rows. Tension 4/4. Transfer to main bed. R/C 000.

Change to Tension 7.

Knit to row 20, mark ends. Knit to row 48. Run off on waste yarn as follows 11-20-11.

Fronts

Cast on 20sts, work as for back to row 20. Mark armhole edge and commence Neck Shaping.

With three pronged tool Decrease 1stitch at front edge on next and every following 3rd row until 11sts, remain.

Knit to row 48. Run off on waste.

Sleeves

Cast on 36sts, work in 1x1 rib Ten 4/4 for 8 rows. Transfer to main bed. RC 000.

Change to Ten 7 and Inc beg & end of every 6th row until 46sts. Knit to row 36. Run off on waste yarn.

Buttonhole Band

Join shoulder seams. Place garment to machine to gauge how many stitches are required to go all around garment, Left Front, Right Front, and Back Neck. (Approx 104 stitches.)

Cast on waste yarn 104 sts. Knit several rows waste yarn. With main yarn Ten 7. Knit 1 row, Ten 6 Knit 3 rows, now work 2 or 3 buttonholes where required, Knit 4 more rows. Ten 8 Knit 1 row. Ten 6.Kit 4 rows, complete buttonholes. Knit 4 more rows. Make hem. Knit 1 row Ten 8. Place garment to machine. Knit 1 row Ten 8. Knit 1 row Ten 10. Latch off.

Finished Measurements (Approx.) Chest : 11 ins. Length : 6 ins. Sleeves : 4.5 ins.
