Jacket to suit premature baby

Kath Montgomery from Sandbach Machine Knitting Club has kindly submitted this pattern for a jacket for premature babies. If you want to give it a try, simply follow her instructions below.

If you are not a neat sewer sew all seams on the outside.

Brother Machine Tension 7 Knitmaster Tension 6.

Using 4 ply

Cast on 36 stitches, 1/1 Mock Rib.

Tension 2/2 . Knit 26 rows. Pick up hem

Change to M.T. 7 (6) Knit 8 rows

Increase 1 stitch at each end of every row until there are 64 stitches.

Knit 18 rows.

Run the left 23 stitches onto waste yarn. Centre 18 stitches onto waste yarn.

Row Counter 000.

On the remaining 23 stitches increase every third row at the neck edge until back to 0 after knitting 18 rows.

Decrease 1 stitch at sleeve edge each row until 18 stitches remain. Knit to row counter 44.

Transfer stitches to 1x1 Mock rib.

Tension 2/2. Knit 26 rows. Pick up hem. Cast off loosely.

Repeat on Left Hand Side reversing stitches.
