Journeys Lisa Pettifer has been exploring people's individual journeys, literal journeys of travelling across Staffordshire, and personal journeys that local people have made - that have affected their life today. Pauline's Story Pauline: "I knew I'd been to hell and there were times I thought I wasn't coming back….." Pauline Richardson from Ipstones in the Staffordshire Moorlands was looking forward to the holiday of a lifetime. She and her husband had decided to take the trip to South Africa but after one day at their resort, Pauline was taken very ill. Excruciating pains "We had a breakfast of all the lovely South African fruits but I didn't feel very well and went back to our room. I was violently sick and I had the most excruciating pains in my head." She was taken to hospital where, luckily, the consultant on duty was familiar with her condition. He told her that if she had what he thought she had, she would never experience pain like it again. She was rushed in for an MRI scan and the results proved her consultant right. "He was like a young lad he was that excited; he said I'm right, I'm right!! He says you've got spontaneous intracranial hypo-tension. You have somehow ruptured the membrane that holds all the fluid all around the brain and the spinal column and that's why you've got the pain. There is no fluid that is supporting your brain." Reiki healing from Staffordshire She spent the next ten days lying flat on a hospital bed in near darkness with just water to drink and red and green jellies to eat. In the meantime, her friend back in Ipstones was sending her distant reiki healing. Geraldine Shuttleworth's treatment seemed to be effective as on the 11th day Pauline opened her eyes and asked her husband "where have I been"? She's now back to full health and is training to be a reiki healer herself. "I am most convinced it was the healing that helped because I had been to hell and there were chances I wasn't coming back - and I DID come back."
