Three Counties Photography Competition at Keele

The winners of the Three Counties Open Photography Exhibition have been announced. 105 photographs are on show by photographers from Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.


The annual Three Counties Photography Exhibition continues to bring together photographers from Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire in 2006. Over 400 photographs were submitted in this year's competition, the first prize went to a Cheshire photographer with a total of 10 entrants either winning a prize or commended!

And the winners are...

The First Prize went to Don Crewe from Stoke, for his photograph, 'Padley Gorge, April 2005', Second Prize went to Michael Johnson from Winkhill, near Leek in Staffordshire for the photograph 'Kingfisher with Fish', and Third Prize was won by Alan Brown, from Blythe Bridge, also in Staffordshire for his piece 'Global Warming'.

Other photographers were commended for their entries, they were: Noel Bennett from Stone for 'White Out', Mark Eccleston from Telford in Shropshire for ‘Get Your Tongue Around That',  Ann Hulse from Crewe with 'Sherpa Two Sing', Nigel Waller from Congleton for 'Vintage Speed', Andrew Land from Uttoxeter with ‘Frozen Rockpool, The Roaches’ and Rosemary Mutimer from Burton-on-Trent with ‘No Takers’.

Paul Pickard of Stafford won the Student Prize for his photograph 'Cock of the North', and Susan Budge from Tean in Staffordshire won The Focal Point Prize offered by sponsors, Hulme Upright Manning, for her photograph of buildings called 'Reach for the Sky'.

Exhibiting until April 06

The Three Counties Photography Exhibition is running until 1 April at Keele University Art Gallery in Staffordshire. 105 works photographs are on show reflecting a wide range of photographic styles and subject matter submitted by the entrants.

The pieces were chosen by judges Professor Ian Bell, Keele University Arts Committee Chairman, John Rhodes, Arts Development Officer at Keele University, and Dr Mike Maloney, FRPS, FBIPP, former Chief Photographer, Mirror Group of Newspapers Awards.

Exhibition organiser, Marion Gidman, said: "The aim of the Three Counties Open Photography competition and exhibition is to give photographers from Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire the opportunity to show their work to new audiences.

"This exhibition is proving popular with photographers in the region and visitors to the gallery. The high standard of work reflects a wide range of styles and enthusiasm for the medium."
