Has anyone out there heard of a place called Macalonie. I believe it was a group of small cottages and was situated in the area of Cobridge between the canal and Cobridge Road. I have been given a cutting from a paper.unfortunately I do"nt know which one or the date. In the cutting it says that "The route to Macalonie was the footpath to Wolstanton, which started by Halls shop in Cobridge Road. It skirted the allotments and crossed the canal by a footbridge, the site of which is sstill marked where the canal can be drained for drailage" Someone recalls the area known as Macalonie was regarded as being a part of the Grange Estate. For Ann - the Dean School. The school was known as the Village Dame School established by Mrs Levett of Milford Hall. Elizabeth Dean (nee Colley), my great great great grandmother, was asked to run the school when she was quite young and did for 68 years. I have a copy of her obituary in the local parish magazine. She died in 1879. I am still looking for more information on the Colley family

My Grandfather Wilmot Underwood was born in Chesterton in 1890, married Lilian Hulse in 1914 and lived at 69 Booth St. Chesterton. He had two sons Wilmot Edward in 1914 and was shown as the father of Arthur Hulse Underwood in 1917 by which time Lilian was living in London Road. There is no further trace anywhere of my Grandfather. We have recently visited England and done a lot of research but there is no record of him or his death. The last known information about him is on my father's birth certificate (Wilmot Edward) in 1914 when he registered the birth. Does anyone have any information or ideas on where I can look. I have tried Ancestry.co.uk and Stafford Records Office and Newcastle-under-lyme Library also War Records and the Mormons but no one can help.

I have been trying for some time to discover something about my great uncle ERNEST WAINWRIGHT.He describes himself on his marriage certificate as a composer and author, and I posess some of his poetry and have managed to buy some sheet music of songs written in the early part of last century.He collaborated with someone called LEON T ACLAND,but I can't find any information about him either.Ernest was the youngest son of a pottery foreman,and at the age of 13 was working as an artist.I would love to know whether his songs would have been popular,were they written for the music hall,for local enjoyment or whatever.He married at 30,until then he lived with his parents at 74 Elder Rd .If you could find any more of his work I would be delighted to add it to my collection.thankyou.
