Lichfield Winter Beer and Wine Festival

Lichfield has a year-round programme of festivals and what better way to kick-start 2006 with this celebration of local breweries. So for some post-Christmas cheer, try this celebration of fine wines and Staffordshire beer!

If you are feeling a bit bluesy following your Christmas and New Year celebrations, let Lichfield Arts cheer you up with their Winter Beer and Wine Festival. It will be held at one of Lichfield’s oldest pubs - ‘The Duke of York‘ in Greenhill, Lichfield.

What’s special about the festival this year is that all the beers come from Staffordshire. It will feature over 30 real ales from breweries such as Beowulf, Chasewater, Blythe Hamstall Ridware, Burton Bridge Burton, Ecceshall, Envile, Kinver, Leek, Old Cottage Burton , Peakstones Rock Alton, Quartz Kings Bromley, Titanic Burslem, Tower Burton on Trent and Town House Audley.

There will also be traditional ciders and a wide selection of wines from around the world to sample. Soft drinks and food will also be available in the pub.

Running from 2-4 February, admission is free and opening hours will be 6.00pm-11.00pm on Thursday 2 Feb, noon-11.00pm on Friday/Saturday 3/4 Feb.

Festival organiser

Festival organiser Brian Pretty said: "I’m very pleased that the festival is taking place at one of Lichfield’s oldest pubs and believed that it is the first time that a beer festival has featured beers from within one county."

Gerry Arthur Chairman of Lichfield District Tourism Association added: "I am delighted that the festival was taking place in Lichfield the Cultural Heritage Capital of Staffordshire. It would attract many visitors to the city at a normal quiet period of the year, and enhance it’s growing title of ‘City of Festivals'."
