No matter what name it's going by the comedy night at Crewe's LimeLight club is one of the best in the area. Up to the summer of 2005 it was called "Ribbed" but now it's being called the LimeLight Comedy Club.

Thursday 28th July 2005 was the final curtain for Ribbed and what a night for it. The three comedians on the night we’re (in order of appearance) Bethany the self styled lesbian goth, Tim Craven our very own local comedian and the extraordinary Alan Carr who has appeared on ‘FAQ U’ and ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ and was the warm up act for Jonathan Ross on his Friday BBC1 show. There is no business like show business... The night was truly a rib tickler and arranged by Ribbed management otherwise known as Wayne Williams. It really does show the quality of these events when one night you can have Peter Kay in the audience and the next Alan Carr performing his Edinburgh fringe show.

Alan really was a comedy mastermind despite his young age. Trying not to reveal his show entirely it consists of oversized Top Trumps cards about his life… who else would come up with such an absurd idea? The night was great with small tables of close lit people you really are tucked into the action and the audience interaction is wonderful. With a bar aswell, i'm not making generalisations but a few drinks make the night that little bit better. The acts are the best in the area without a doubt and the mix of humour, wit and current affairs... is quality. | "Have you seen the Big Brother house... they're nutters... it's like being trapped on a night bus..." | | Alan Carr |
Ribbed have decided to simply become the management side of the project and overseeing the new Thursday night gigs at Crewe’s LimeLight . Ribbed had over 70 gigs since forming in 2003 and is now, with these new changes, hoping to become a huge venture in the local area. "We've been going for a while and we've got some great acts performing all over the place but now it's time to base ourselves." Ribbed's Wayne Williams said. "The LimeLight is a great venue as you know it's got loads of things going on and now comedy is one of the best nights here." I recommend you get along. At only a couple of quid a ticket it really is a bargain. Oh and obviously I’ll be there so you can be assured that I practice what I preach. |
