Turning Japanese!

Manga mantra

Lisa Pettifer
Traditional Japanese ‘Manga’ cartoon characters are at the forefront of keeping Staffordshire students in education...

Manga characters are being used to encourage teenagers in north Staffordshire to further their education.

The Japanese cartoon characters feature in a series of roadshows organised  by the Learning and Skills Council.

With this Oriental twist, local educational partners aim to target young people aged 16-19, who are either in danger of ‘dropping out’ or are not in education, employment or training.

Goodie bag

Teenagers visiting the roadshow will get a campaign goodie bag with information about local opportunities, a prize draw postcard, pen and sweets.

The director of the Collegiate campaign, Gill Howell, says:

"This has traditionally been the hardest group of young people to reach, and whilst the number has reduced over recent years, we’re hoping that this interactive campaign will entice them into finding more about what options are available to them.”

Two for one

Two for one cinema tickets have also been added by the Odeon cinema at Festival Park, which is the first venue for the exhibition on August 31st.

The roadshow will then visit the Potteries Shopping Centre on September 2nd and 9th, and the Warner Village cinema in Newcastle on September 7th.
