Pete
Marshall is a playwright and actor who runs the Daystar Theatre company.
They spend the summer travelling the canals, presenting original drama
alongside the towpath.
Each year he writes a new play based on the people he meets on his
journeys and the history of the waterways.
Not surprisingly, he chose an area of the canal in his home town of
Audlem. He says:
"To regular users of our navigable canals and rivers, the
inland waterways are like one long winding village.
A Community of all types of different characters from all walks of
life. Some on the move and some always where you expect to see them.
To someone who has to come up with a new a new play with a waterways
theme every year this is a great source of inspiration, but the canal
banks Audlem locks are also a spiritual place, where the wildlife
gives you an overwhelming sense of being close to nature. A perfect
place to return to, to sit and watch the watery world go by."
