Learn to swim in the sea, Boscombe, Bournemouth

Have you always fancied swimming in the open water but don't have the confidence or the skills?

Head down to Boscombe pier for a four week course which will get you making a big splash in the ocean.

Run by a fully qualified, level 3 triathlon coach, you can learn everything you need for open water swimming.

Big Dip, Clapham Common, London

Monday 27 July - Sunday 14 August

The Big Dip is an event which offers outdoor swimming to people of all ages and abilities at Clapham Common in London.

A brainchild of Olympic swimming medallist Stephen Parry, the Big Dip features a 25m pool and a beach.

So if you fancy trying having a go at aqua fit, family swims, splash games, toddler fun, mini water polo or water confidence sessions - the Big Dip could be the place for you to make a Big Splash this summer.

Great London Swim, Royal Victoria Dock

Saturday 2 July

The Great London Swim is the biggest outdoor swim in the south of England with 5,000 participants in 2010.

It offers a rare opportunity to swim in the River Thames from the Royal Victoria Dock, with spectators able to follow swimmers around the course from start to finish.

The one-mile course will be set against the magnificent London skyline, with views of Canary Wharf and the rejuvenated London Docklands area, providing the perfect backdrop for a Great Swim.

RNLI Open Weekend, Poole

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 July

The RNLI Headquarters in Poole, Dorset, hosts exciting displays, demonstrations and activities for children in a weekend of events.

Find out what it takes to train crews and lifeguards, and how the RNLI design and equip their lifeboats.

There will also be lifeboat tours, sea survival pool and rescue demonstrations and a waterfront picnic area.

Outdoor Swimming Society's Big Jumps

Sunday 10 July

For the fourth year running the Outdoor Swimming Society will be leading the Big Jump campaign in Britain, encouraging swimmers across the country to love their rivers and go swimming in them.

The 10th of July is a Europe-wide river swimming day, with tens of thousands of swimmers jumping into rivers across Europe at the same time (1600 BST) on the same day.

The Epic Lakes Swim Series - Ullswater

Sunday 10 July

The Epic Lakes Swim Series consists of three open water swim events at three different locations in Cumbria. For each date and location there are three distances to choose from, which provides novices, intermediates and elite swimmers with a challenge.

The three venues are Coniston Water, Derwent Water (Keswick) and Ullswater (Patterdale) each with stunning scenery.
