TOP TRADER

17 May 2007

After last week's Top Trader descended into ex-pat madness we're happy to bring you a TT who is a resident to these Isles. Ironically, he's originally from South Africa and true to his roots shuns football for the glorious likes of rugby union, cricket and golf. It makes a refreshing change, even if (as he points out) the papers won't change their ways...

1. So, how does it feel to be Top Trader this week?

Absolutely magnificent.

2. Euphoria has set in. What was it that set you apart from the rest of the players this week and meant you got the silverware?

Enjoying playing the game – having a target to make as much money as possible in a 2–3 week cycle.

3. The true Sportdaq mix: fun and cold hard virtual cash. Your most important buy or sell this week?

Brian Noble – he paid a rather nice win bonus.

4. Leeds Rhinos must be sick of the sight of him. So everyone else has had a say on the Tevez affair. What do you think?

The whole judicial process needs to be shorter. This should have been sorted out immediately and everybody would have known where they stood.

5. Alternatively the 'gang of four' and in particular Sheffield Utd should just have won more football matches. What are your highs and lows of the Premiership season?

There was nothing that really stands out as a low but even though I am not really a fan of the play offs I thought Leicester were magnificent in their victory over Gloucester. For their sake I hope they can build on the magnificent season they have had under Pat Howard.

6. Well, if they win the Heineken up it'll take some building on. Can England's cricketers fill the void left by the football with some quality cricket?

Lets hope the new coaching staff can breathe some life into what has essentially become a tired outfit. Otherwise it will be two teams trying to rebuild competing against each other. There will, however, be some other great sport around to watch.

7. There always is. Bar skittles for example. Lewis Hamilton is having the debut season from heaven so far. What's the best ever sports debut?

He has had an amazing start to his debut season but the debut/career of Donald Bradman must be the best ever.

8. Can't argue with that. Finally, take the chance to talk about any sporting issue close to your heart. Try and keep it brief.

As you can see from my answers I am not a diehard football fan. Its not that I don't watch but I am very selective and if there is rugby, cricket tennis, golf, F1 etc to watch I would rather watch that. Football, in my opinion, gets too many column inches, TV coverage etc. You for instance run a win bonus, say the Rugby League one from Saturday, but don't even bother giving the scores. But I am a realist and money talks so for the minority of us for whom football isn't king we will just have to continue living in an imperfect world!!!
