HOW TO PLAY
 |
What is Sportdaq?
SPORTDAQ is a sports stock exchange game. Instead of shares in companies you buy shares in sports stars. To play you have to sign up. Once you're signed up we'll give you a cool ten thousand pounds (that's Sportdaq pounds, not real cash!).
The aim of the game: to make as much profit as you can by buying and selling 'shares' in listed sports stars. The person with the highest weekly percentage gain is crowned Top Trader.
HOW CAN YOU MAKE MONEY?
1) Dividends: Every day we count how much press coverage each celeb gets. Then on Thursday the shares you own will pay out a dividend, depending on how much press coverage those sports stars received. The more press coverage a celeb gets, the more money you make. To get the full pay-out you have to own the celeb from Monday night to Thursday morning.
2) Capital Gains: Just like in the real world, share prices rise and fall as demand for them changes - so as well as receiving dividends, you can make money by day-trading and buying low (when demand for a specific celeb is low) and selling high (as the celeb gets more press coverage and the demand for them increases). Prices are updated every 20 minutes so you can make or lose money on a celeb very quickly.
3) Win Bonuses: Every week we offer a selection of sporting events where you can win extra cash. Find out more about Win Bonuses.
WHERE TO START?
1) First, create your membership and sign up (see below).
2) Once you're registered, the best place to start is My Shares which is where you can begin buying and selling celebrity shares.
3) Keep one eye on the market and the other on the back pages of the press, and you could soon be raking it in!

How Do I Buy and Sell Shares?
Once you've signed up click My Shares, this will take you to the heart of your trading empire where you can conduct all your transactions from.
First select the sport star you want to buy from the drop down list. If you want more information before you buy, click the "Profile" tab. You can also buy from a star's profile page but more of that later.
Second, choose the number of shares you want to buy or sell. You can type in the number you want to buy/sell and the system will automatically work out how much you are spending on that star. Then you can choose either "buy" or "sell" or if there's just one name you want to spend all your cash on you can choose "buy max" to purchase as many as you can afford. You will be charged one per cent commission on all transactions.
Once you are happy with your choices, slide your mouse over to the right and choose either the "check trade" button, which will allow you to see the sums before you buy/sell, or just dive straight on in and complete your purchase by clicking on the "execute trade" button.

How Do I Find Out About A Sport Star?
While you're looking at your shares you might fancy finding out more about some of the other names on the market. It's easy to do so - just choose the name you are interested in and click on the profile tab which will take you to a full profile of your chosen star.
In addition, every single Sport Star listed falls into one of the market sectors which appear down the left-hand side of the page. Clicking on the overview will take you to a profile of all the shares listed on the market. You can also choose from any of the market sectors containing different sports.
Once you have found the name you want then click on the trade button which will take you to their profile page where you can read more about them and make any purchases you want to.
If you want to take a look at how your shares have been performing, then click on the data tab for graphs and more facts and figures than you can swing a cricket bat at.

Risk Ratings And Win Bonuses
Each sector of the market is attached to a risk rating, based on average actual coverage and average predicted coverage. The less coverage a sport gets, the higher the risk rating.
Football = low
Motorsport = medium
Golf = medium
Tennis = medium
Rugby Union = medium
Rugby League = high
Cricket = medium
Athletics = high
Snooker = high
Horse Racing = high
Other sports = high
These risk ratings will affect the speed at which prices can move in the market. For example, if the same number of shares are held in a football player as a cyclist then you should expect the cyclist to rise faster as they are considered a higher risk investment and so will be geared towards unpredictable spurts around coverage. We reserve the right to change these ratings at any time. Changes to ratings will be advertised in the news section of Sportdaq.
On a weekly basis we select sporting events and make them eligible for a win bonus. This means that if you invest in the names involved (non-playing substitutes will not be eligible) you could get a nice little payout if they win. We pay these out whenever there is an event selected. This is paid out on the next working day from 13:00 (London time). To qualify for the bonus you must own the shares at the time of the event's scheduled time. You do not need to hold the shares at the time that the bonus is paid. A list of the current win bonus fixtures is always available here.
