Hook wanted to be inspiration

Taekwondo coach Kathy Hook has won the BBC Sports Unsung Hero award for Yorkshire.

Hook, from Doncaster, has had her own gym for the last 16 years and works on a voluntary basis six nights a week.

She told BBC Look North: "I never really had a coach that really inspired me and that's what drove me on to want to be a coach.

"I wanted to be an inspiration and I started coaching alongside my instructor when I was about 15."

She added: "I wanted to set up a safe environment for people to train in and I worked hard to progress from church halls to a place that's fully equipped.

"I'm really proud of the progression and the achievements we've made here."

Hook will now go forward for the national award which will be presented at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012 in London on 16 December.
