Wales backs coach Rob Howley has confirmed Alun Wyn Jones has not resumed training ahead of the Six Nations clash with England.

Jones, 28, was ruled out with a toe infection just ahead of kick-off in Wales' 27-6 win over France.

Howley hopes Jones will resume training on Saturday or early next week at the latest.

"We were disappointed to lose him but he's been on a dose of antibiotics throughout the week," Howley said.

"His wellbeing is fine so he's recuperating good."

Jones, who has won 78 Wales caps, played in his country's two opening games against Italy and Ireland.

But the British and Irish Lions second row, who has played in six Tests in 2009 and 2013, was forced to withdraw with a toe infection and watch Scarlet lock Jake Ball impress on his first start for Wales.

Centre Jonathan Davies has been released to the Scarlets who take on Munster in the Pro12 on Saturday in a bid to prove his fitness.

Davies has not played for Wales since damaging his pectoral muscle in the 24-15 defeat to South Africa in November.

Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards says Davies is in good physical condition but needs to play to prove his match fitness.

"His actually fitness is excellent, he has actually been working incredibly hard with the conditioners," said Edwards.

"He just needs match fitness to get his confidence really.

"It's the kind of injury where he needs confidence, knowing he can put a shoulder into a tackle."

Apart from Davies, Wales have also released eight other players back to their regions to play this weekend.

James King, Justin Tipuric and fly-half Dan Biggar return to the Ospreys; Emyr Phillips, Samson Lee, Rhodri Williams and prop Rob Evans to the Scarlets and Andrew Coombs to the Newport Gwent Dragons.
