Ukrainian fencer Yana Shemyakina wins epee gold after controversy at the ExCel Arena

Ukrainian fencer Yana Shemyakina wins epee gold against Germany's Britta Heidemann in extra time.

Shemyakina led 3-2 following the second period, but Heidemann came back to win a high-scoring third period to tie the match at 8-8 going into extra time.

Shemyakina defended resolutely and her single point in extra time proved to be enough to take the match and the medal, giving her country its first gold medal and third overall.

Controversy came in the second semi final when South Korea's Shin Lam forced a lengthy delay to competition after breaking down in tears following her semi-final loss to Heidemann.
