Wu Jingyu wins taekwondo gold

China's Wu Jingyu successfully defended her women's -49kg Olympic taekwondo title after defeating Spain's Brigitte Yague Enrique 8-1.

Jingyu, 25, produced a dominant performance against three-time world champion Enrique, who missed out on competing in Beijing because of injury.

Her victory took China's London 2012 gold medal tally to 36.

Thailand's Chanatip Sonkham and Croatia's Lucija Zaninovic both secured bronze medals in the repechage.

Enrique, who was looking to become the first European to win the event, found herself overwhelmed at the ExCeL.

There was a large Spanish presence at the venue to cheer the 31-year-old from Majorca but she had no answer to her Chinese opponents's kicks to the mid-section and head.

The gold medallist celebrated by jumping into her coach's arms before taking a Chinese flag thrown from the crowd and doing a lap of honour.

Meanwhile, Zaninovic's bronze medal success maintained the 25-year-old's impressive 2012 after she won gold at the European Championships in May.
