Magdalena Rybarikova, who will now play Garbine Muguruza, speaking to BBC Sport: "I really cannot believe it. I would never believe I could reach the semi-final before this tournament. I am so happy and grateful.

"It was a very difficult time over the last year with my injuries but now everything has paid off. It is incredible, I am speechless.

"I was afraid of how I was going to play here. This is Wimbledon. I was very focussed and here I am.

"Muguruza impressed me a lot today, I am not the favourite again but let's see."

'She handled it so much better'

Rybarikova had not one, but two surgeries last year and was ranked outside the top 400 as recently as March.

She handled the situation so much better. Stayed calm, composed and Coco got very rattled.

Rybarikova gets a good first serve in.

The second point is more contentious with Vandeweghe arguing over a call with the umpire.

"What are you talking about? I'm in play. You're totally wrong."

Basically, it seems she was arguing over a point that was challenged but was called in. We will no doubt get an explanation from the American later.

Anyway, it's 30-0 which becomes 40-0.

Three match points. The first is taken via another error from her opponent who is too long with her return.

Vandeweghe survives...for now

Saved again.

It's the 100th deuce or something.

Now it's advantage Vandeweghe after she forces an error from Rybarikova.

But...no... no buts.... she holds.

The American showed aggression with her shot-making and it paid off.

However, Rybarikova will now serve for the match.

Rybarikova is sweating - maybe she isn't that cool after all.

She's 30-0 up and two points from a place in the Grand Slam semis for the first time.

Vanderweghe pulls to points back but then produces an atrocious smash which is...well... very inaccurate.

Match point.

Saved.

Vanderweghe forehand is too good for her opponent... but wait.

Second match point after Vandeweghe finds the net with an easy volley.

Saved again after her brave approach to the net pays off.

This is so, so easy for Rybarikova.

The Slovak holds to love with American Vandeweghe seemingly having given up. It's so strange - her returns are missing by miles.

Twice the American opens up and goes wide with a forehand - that's 22 unforced errors! In this match, not this game. Clearly.

It should be have been 0-40 but Rybarikova's lob is weak and picked off.

However, Vandeweghe, who must be collecting double faults - do you get vouchers for a certain number? - produces two double faults to gift her opponent the game.

She's broken. In more ways than one.

Slovak Rybarikova is graceful from the back of the court - her groundstrokes kick off the surface and dumbfound her American rival.

Vandeweghe reduces the deficit to 40-30 after her opponent fails to pick up a drop-shot, and then produces a flat angled return that eludes the reach of Vandeweghe.

It's deuce. However, a good challenge by Rybarikova and an error by Vandeweghe sees Rybarikova hold.

That was a tricky game for the Slovak.

OK, a bit more detail.

World numero 25 Coco Vandeweghe - who reached this stage two years ago and reached the Aussie semis this year - had a bit of a mare' in the first set, especially with her serve.

Former Wimbers winner Pat Cash, who coaches the American, looked somewhat perplexed by it all sitting inside Court One.

Magdalena Rybarikova - the current world number 87 - had been playing the match like she was out for a Sunday hit with her next-door neighbour while discussing the pros and cons of cryptocurrency. In other words, she was pretty relaxed but focused.

That helped her ease through her service games.

The second set has been slightly different - they both broke each other and it became a much tighter contest.

There are one or two people creeping back into the main arena.

Not even a flicker of emotion from Jo, that's how she can cope with it . I have seen her have some meltdowns when under intense pressure, but she has learnt. She has been done as much work on the mental side of her game as she has technique.

In the third set you saw that. She took her game to another level and there was no breaking through for Simona Halep. You could see her body language shift.

Konta was machine like.

It got shaky off and on but you knew it was going to be a close match. Jo had to be the aggressor.

Without sounding sycophantic, Konta had a lot of expectation on her shoulders.

Not just the tag of 'Wimbledon favourite' but playing on Centre Court, in front of a crowd expecting big things, and facing a player who knew she was just one win away from the world number one title is a big ask of one player.

To fight back from a set down, to match the intensity and power shown by the wonderful Simona Halep, is some feat.

Bravo.

The first British woman to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals since 1978, watched on by the last woman to do so in Virginia Wade.

It was an odd end to proceedings - Halep stopped playing after a cry from the crowd and loosely slashed the ball into the net.

But what a match.

Konta, on the right of the baseline, whips her arm up and the forehand is stunning!

Konta loops a forehand long before Halep responds in kind to keep it equal.

An almighty rally, both players on the stretch, but it's Konta who gets it to 30-15 with another backhand winner into the corner of the court!

I feel like a bag of nerves just watching. Even Virginia Wade looks tense as she watches on.

And yet these two players look so composed. Heads down. Eyes forward. Not a flicker of emotion as the crowd applauds and cheers.

A series of lovely speedy serves, followed with a crash down the line, and Halep holds to love.

Konta will serve for the match.

That's a wonderful message back to Halep. A love hold. Jo's a game away from the semi-final.

She's as cool as a cucumber out there isn't she?

Lovely from Konta, responding to a bit of a shank return from Halep with a dart to the net and a bit of fakery, moving to Halep's right as she slaps the ball to the left.

Big serve, Halep returns into the net - and a forehand winner gets Konta a hold to love! She's a game away from a place in the Wimbledon semi-final!

You can feel Halep's doubt a little bit. When Johanna went up 4-2, the shots were getting a little shorter and her body language is a little bit off.

The rain falls, still the crowd on Johanna Montagne remains. Transfixed.
