Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy adopts a new, more conservative strategy at the Players Championship at Sawgrass.

The world number two fired an opening round of six-under-par 66 to move into early contention at the tournament labelled 'the fifth major'.

"My game has been progressing nicely and I've been shooting scores that are really promising," said McIlroy.
