Giggs made wise decision - Phelan

Former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan believes that Ryan Giggs is making a "wise decision" to quit playing and focus fully on his role as assistant to new boss Louis van Gaal.

Phelan was Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man from 2008 to 2013 and believes that the former Wales winger, who clocked up 963 appearances for United, would be "a help - not a hindrance" to the incoming Dutchman.

Giggs, 40, took charge of United's final four Premier League matches this season following the sacking of David Moyes and now has "a taste for management" according to Phelan.
