St Johnstone 1-1 Partick Thistle

Kris Doolan struck in the final minute to earn Partick Thistle a thoroughly deserved point at McDiarmid Park.

Thistle were dominant after falling behind early in Perth and the substitute's shot on the turn crept past keeper Alan Mannus.

Stevie May cracked in his 23rd goal of the season on nine minutes and later hit the crossbar with a header.

Thistle forced 11 corners in pursuit of a leveller but left it late to seal a valuable draw.

With all of Thistle's immediate rivals picking up points, Alan Archibald's men remain in 10th spot, two points better off than St Mirren in the relegation play-off place.

St Johnstone welcomed back manager Tommy Wright after winning two games in his absence as he recovered from gall bladder surgery and he must have been delighted by the start made by the home side.

May latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box and fired past Paul Gallacher at his near post, with the aid of a deflection.

Partick Thistle almost equalised but Prince Buaben's close range shot was comfortably saved by Mannus. Chris Erskine then flashed a header over the crossbar before firing a shot just wide of the post as Thistle sought out an equaliser.

St Johnstone went close to doubling their lead on 20 minutes when a thunderous drive from Lee Croft was only parried by Gallacher and the follow up header from May came back off the bar before the keeper swiped the ball to safety.

Despite having plenty of possession for the remainder of the first half Thistle struggled to create any further openings before the break.

In the 57th minute Gallacher had to look lively to bat away an effort from Steven MacLean as the visitors were caught out by a long ball.

Soon after, a smart turn saw Erskine create a chance for Thistle but his shot flew too high before team-mate Gary Fraser had a strike deflected wide by Frazer Wright.

Thistle continued to push for an equaliser and a deflected shot from striker Lyle Taylor was held by Mannus.

But Mannus was beaten right at the death as a loose ball fell to Doolan at the edge of the box and the replacement fired home to deliver what could be a massive point for the Jags.
