Cheltenham Town 0-2 Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe's top scorer Sam Winnall scored in either half to keep the Iron firmly in the League Two title hunt after victory at Cheltenham.

Matt Richards' first-half header was saved by visiting keeper Sam Slocombe.

Winnall made it 1-0 after hooking past Scott Brown, and his second came after Cheltenham failed to clear another dead-ball from Gary McSheffrey.

Slocombe later saved Richards' penalty after Jermaine McGlashan was tripped by David Mirfin.

The result means the Iron remain second and two points behind leaders Rochdale.

"I thought for 44 minutes we were right in the game. We were just getting on top.

"We conceded cheap free-kicks. I don't know what Sido (Jombati) was thinking for the first.

"It's disappointing to concede from two set-pieces. We shouldn't be conceding goals like that.

"We got a penalty to get back in the game and it just sums us up that we missed it."

Scunthorpe United manager Russ Wilcox told BBC Radio Humberside:

Post-match: Scunthorpe boss Wilcox

"Not an outstanding performance but a very professional performance. Very disciplined and I think that's the word we're looking for tonight and just that little bit of quality was the difference.

"We had to be disciplined, organised and narrow as a midfield and trying to keep the ball better. I spoke at half-time about keeping the ball off them because we kept giving it back to them in the first half a little bit which creates pressure and I thought we did that better in the second half.

"It will be interesting to look at the stats and see how many times we've actually been in front this season - it will be a lot and great credit to the players for that."
