Burton Albion 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

Darren Jones

A goal from Darren Jones deep into injury time denied promotion-chasing Burton victory against AFC Wimbledon.

Burton took the lead when Billy Kee scored from the spot after Dominic Knowles was fouled by Alan Bennett.

The home side dominated but failed to take their chances, Matt Palmer and Damien McCrory both denied by Dons keeper Ross Worner in the second half.

Wimbledon snatched a point in the fifth minute of injury time when Jones turned in George Francomb's corner.

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

Post-match: Burton manager Rowett

"Five minutes went up on the board; we had one substitution within that five minutes, which is thirty seconds, and yet we played seven and a half minutes and the goal came on seven minutes.

"It's just disappointing. I could talk for the next 10 minutes about how we didn't play quite as well as we could've have done today.

"You could argue that Wimbledon deserved a point for their efforts and their endeavour, but it looked as though we'd seen the trouble off in the second half.

"To get done by that is particularly galling. Yes, we needed to defend the corner better, but you could see the players were out on their feet with maybe 15 or 20 minutes to go.

"But I thought we'd dug in and we were going to come up with another magnificent effort and a magnificent three points."

AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley told BBC London 94.9:

"It's a tough place to come. We've played two good teams in the last two games.

"All we did wrong in the first half was give away a silly penalty. Other than that, there wasn't much happening and they didn't open us up or create bundles of chances.

"We changed it, upped the tempo and could have won it."
