Danny Graham scored both goals as Middlesbrough found the net for the first time in almost two months on their way to victory against Ipswich.

The on-loan Sunderland striker stabbed in from close range to give the hosts the lead after the half-hour with their first goal in 12 hours and 14 minutes.

Graham then headed in Boro's second just before half-time to double the home team's advantage.

Ipswich are now four points adrift of the play-offs after one win in five.

The hosts - a further five points back even after this win - quickly took control at the Riverside with George Friend driving over after Emmanuel Ledesma's free-kick was headed down by Ben Gibson.

Graham had only managed one goal in 14 months before Saturday, but after Mustapha Carayol's shot was saved by Dean Gerken he turned in Boro's first goal since 18 January.

The striker added a second in first-half added time when he headed in from Grant Leadbitter's corner.

Daryl Murphy wasted the visitors' best chance to pull one back, shooting weakly straight at Dimitrios Konstantopoulos in the Boro goal.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka:

"I was happy for Danny. After the goal he demonstrated he is a very good Premier League player.

"Finally the goals arrived and I'm very happy. Firstly, our supporters deserved to see us scoring goals and winning and secondly it's great for my team to reward their hard work.

"But I was never worried. I always believed 100 per cent in myself and in the team and I know that when we work hard and play like that we can beat anybody."

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy:

"We were second best, we got nothing and deserved nothing. We didn't compete and that wasn't like us.

"I actually think Middlesbrough played well and when they got the goal they got on top and didn't let us play.

"We've not performed so I can't take any silver lining from other results. To be in with any chance of getting into the play-offs, we need to be much better than that."
