Southend United 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Southend's winless streak was extended to nine matches following a draw against struggling Wycombe Wanderers at Roots Hall.

Anthony Stewart almost put the visitors ahead in the first half but his header was narrowly saved by Daniel Bentley.

The Shrimpers went in front after the break when Barry Corr headed home Kevan Hurst's corner.

Paris Cowan-Hall levelled when his long-range shot hit the crossbar before rebounding in off Bentley's back.

Southend remain in the League Two play off places in seventh, whilst Wycombe are 21st and five points clear of the relegation places.

Post match: Southend boss Phil Brown

"I asked for quality in the final third and I think we got the quality, we just couldn't get over the winning line.

"It's summing us up at the moment. We're not firing on all cylinders for sure, it's amazing what a win would do. It would turn everything round and confidence levels would come back.

"I don't think they are playing with fear. I just feel teams are coming to Roots Hall now and doing a turn on us.

"I thought we were better team by a long, long way, but we've only got a point."

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties Radio:

Post-match: Wycombe boss Ainsworth

"It's a good point away from home here at Roots Hall. It's a tough side and Phil Brown's a good manager. I thought we defended really well. Resilience was the word. We've got this new-found resilience and it's paid dividends.

"We'll get the rub of the green sometimes and it's starting to happen and what a time for it to happen. We have got to keep breeding this positivity and hopefully we can build on this at Hartlepool. Seven points in a week is a real turn around and I'm delighted.

"This run we're on we're finding we're hard to break down. We're hard to beat, and that's the starting block for any good team."
