CHAN 2014: Uganda win as Zimbabwe hold Morocco

Brahim el Bahri

Uganda beat Burkina Faso 2-1 as Zimbabwe and Morocco played out a 0-0 draw in their opening match in Group B at CHAN in Cape Town on Sunday.

Yunus Sentamu scored both goals for Uganda the first after 15 minutes and then in the 73rd minute.

Cyrille Bayala grabbed a late consolation for Burkina Faso with just two minutes left on the clock.

The win put Uganda top of the group after the earlier stalemate between Zimbabwe and Morocco.

The hot and humid conditions made it difficult and there was little quality on show at the Athlone Stadium.

The Warriors came closest to scoring when, in the 64th minute, Sithole's effort hit the post and a follow-up from Ali Sadiki was cleared off the line.

Earlier, Zimbabwe's Simbarashe Sithole should have done better with a free header, while Iajour Mouhssine screwed a shot wide for Morocco.
