Tamworth 2-0 FC Halifax Town

Tamworth scored a goal in each half to beat Halifax and leapfrog Chester in the Conference Premier relegation zone.

The visitors went close to opening the scoring when Matty Pearson forced a fine save from Cameron Belford.

Reece Gray then squandered another chance for Halifax before Lloyd Kerry's curling left-wing cross flew straight into the net right on half-time.

Andy Todd volleyed in Nick Chadwick's knockdown to make it 2-0 on 59 minutes before Belford denied Scott McManus.

Much-travelled former Brentford and Watford midfielder Gavin Mahon made his debut for Tamworth at the back, two days after his 37th birthday.

The Birmingham-born veteran, who has made more than 400 Football League starts, has arrived at The Lamb on a short-term contract following a brief stay with League Two side Portsmouth.
