Oldham Athletic 1-2 Shrewsbury Town

Aaron Wildig netted Shrewsbury Town's winner at Oldham to end their four-game run without a League One victory.

Jon Taylor volleyed the visitors ahead before Jonathan Grounds fired low from close range to level before the break.

Chris Weale denied the hosts with a series of fine saves while Korey Smith smashed a free-kick off the bar and Adam Rooney headed against the post for the Latics either side of the break.

Wildig then hit the post but tucked the rebound away from 10 yards to win it.

Town keeper Weale then foiled Oldham striker Jonson Clarke-Harris to ensured that his side hung on to earn their first victory in five games.

It was midfielder Wildig's first start since injuring his knee in the 1-0 win over Notts County on 23 November.

Shrewsbury's victory was also revenge for the two home defeats they had previously suffered at Oldham's hands this season, losing 4-0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as well as going down 2-1 in the league in November.

Post-match: Oldham manager Johnson

"I feel we had the lion's share of the possession, but we didn't have the luck.

"The lads tried without the real quality needed to break a sturdy team down.

"I'm massively disappointed with the goals we conceded, that's the biggest thing.

"I don't know why we keep making these silly mistakes. It comes down to individuals not being on their game."

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"This was a massive win for us. A significant result.

"It's been a terrific return for Aaron Wildig after six weeks out - to see him pop in and get himself a goal.

"It was an excellent run and, when it came back off the post, he showed terrific composure to put in the rebound.

"He's done very little training and was tiring towards the end, but he kept going and put in a really good shift."
